Situated in the Amiens Legacy Centre in Amiens near Stanthorpe, the memorial consists of a 3m high granite relief sculpture representing a settler family. The enormous effort of land clearance is highlighted by the canopy of overpowering trees. The central element is the soldier’s wife who holds a plant against her womb with her left hand while her right hand extends out cautioning a young adventurous son precariously balanced on branch while blessing the newly planted fruit tree. https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6260eb3ed9981773facb9cf0/d04ef3d7-1d78-4401-8414-e5c66057752a/THE+ROCK+processed.jpg private& public commissions - THE ROCK During the construction of a new carpark in Rogers Street Stanthorpe, a large granite boulder emerged just below the surface during preparation of the site. It turned out to be the basis of a highly acclaimed sculpture called ‘THE ROCK’. Designed by trabarts and crafted by sculptors Gabriele Trabucco and Richard Pfeiffer. The egret surmounting the sculpture was forged by local, highly renowned blacksmith Adrian Hobba. It was commissioned by the BCC as a memorial to an iconic Moreton Bay fig tree which was poisoned about 10 years ago. The sculptor, Gabriele Trabucco conceived the form as a resurgence of the spirit of the tree in the form of a central steel core referencing the complex form of the original tree, surrounded by shells from the actual poisoned tree. It consists a four-sided screen enclosing a power outlet box. The predominant theme, like the dancer is celebration. Three of the four sides feature a couple at different stages of a flamboyant dance.
